What is leadership? What makes a leader?
Certainly, it is someone who can set the vision and communicate it, can set the tone, and who causes others to be willing to follow.
It requires willingness to take on the role, and the work and trouble that can bring in balancing conflicting opinions and interests. It requires courage to stay the course and a certain humility, but also a certain strength that may look like hubris to some. This is about serving, not glory.
There are skills and abilities that leaders share, but more than that, I think leadership requires integrity. Integrity in the sense of wholeness, soundness, coherence and transparency in what one thinks, says and does.
